We celebrated our best ever year for A Level results in 2016 with a 99.1 % pass rate, the highest in the area, and topping the national pass rate of 98.1%. More than half our students secured A*A and B grades and 20% got the top grades A* and A. Around 60 per cent of our students headed to university, including a third to Russell Group universities, to study sought-after degree courses from maths to medicine, engineering to economics and politics to psychology. Others secured sought-after higher apprenticeships in with local employers in areas including finance, nuclear, science and project management or employment with good prospects.
Students starting a full Level 3 programme (i.e. a programme comprising solely A levels and/or Cambridge Technical L3 subjects) in September 2017 will study three main subjects (as opposed to four in previous years). This is due to the government’s phased introduction of two-year linear A levels being complete for first teaching from September 2017, and our decision not to offer the revised AS qualification.
