College Life

Barrow Sixth Form College has been a leading quality further education provider for students across South and West Cumbria for nearly 40 years.

We have helped thousands of students on the next step of their journey to success – whether that’s a top university, higher apprenticeship or excellent job with career prospects.

Rated Good with Outstanding features by Ofsted in 2015, inspectors praised our ‘enthusiastic and passionate teachers’, ‘high quality provision’ and ‘highly effective support’ for students. The commented on our ‘culture of respect and positive relationships’ alongside high student satisfaction rates.

Our sixthformers enjoy the biggest range of A levels in South Cumbria with more than 30 subjects to choose from taught by specialist tutors and our advice and guidance has achieved the Matrix Standard for quality. Our pass rate at A level is 99 per cent and we have a proven track record of students being accepted into Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.

Alongside A levels and GCSEs, we offer a programme of Cambridge Technicals at Level 2 and Level 3 in subjects including Business, Health and Social Care, IT, Science and Performing Arts. These are a high-quality vocational alternative to A-Level designed with the workplace in mind so students leave college work-ready or with the UCAS points they need for university.

Our courses cater for 16-18s, post-19 education and adults and we are a satellite campus for Beaumont College for learners with physical and or learning disabilities as well as a partner of Lancaster University.

Our students’ academic achievements and the excellent support they receive means they progress from here with all the benefits of self-confidence, independent learning skills and maturity that having been at a specialist sixth form college brings.
